The Army Men’s Development side finished a successful season with a semi-final finish at the LiT Sevens tournament at Wasps FC on Saturday.
The Red Shirts began their campaign with a dominant 49-5 Group B triumph against Ratana Toa, backing it up with a 29-0 victory against Wild Dogs.
A 31-19 win against Royal Navy Sharks meant they completed the pool stage unbeaten, and their fine run continued with a 27-12 downing of Saint 7s Gold.
However, the Army’s title dreams were ended in the last four, Shogun running out 22-5 winners before defeating Ramblin Jesters 14-10 for the silverware.
All in all, though, it has been a decent campaign for the Development side who finished as runners-up in both the Summer Social event at Richmond and the South Island Sevens last week.
They also reached the semi-finals at the Edinburgh City competition and won the Plate even in their opening foray in the Egg Chasers event.
Army Women were also beaten in the semi-finals after enjoying a decent day in London.
They overcame Boom Beavers 38-22 in a high-scoring Group A opener, then turning on the style in a 41-0 success against Ratana Kaha.
The Red Shirts matched the men by completing the pool stages unbeaten as they finished with a 41-12 triumph against Bath Rugby, only to come unstuck 24-19 to Boom Beavers 2 in the last four.
Their conquerors were then overcame 45-7 by Wild Dogs in the decider.
Army Women are due to play their final tournament at Cheltenham next Saturday.
