The Army Men’s Development squad turned in some fine performances in finishing fourth at the Edinburgh City Sevens event last weekend.
The Men began their Pool A campaign with a dominant 31-5 success against Mavericks, following up with another good effort in a 22-5 win against RAF Spitfires.
However, the Red Shirts then suffered a setback in going down 29-5 to the XXV Edinburgh City 7s All Stars, a result which meant a runners-up slot in the group.
The Army returned to winning ways in the quarter-finals, though, overcoming Edinburgh Accies 26-12 to reach the last four.
Their run ended at this stage, however, eventual champions Rugby Against Cancer running out 24-7 victors.
The Red Shirts were then beaten 21-5 by Scimitar Storm in the third-versus-fourth play-off, with Rugby Against Cancer toppling the All Stars 28-19 to take the title.
Next up for the Development side is the South Island 7s on the Isle of Wight on Saturday, July 6.
In the Women’s competition, the Army also finished fourth.
They were beaten 26-5 by Pigbarians in their opening fixture, also going down to Mo Sisters 24-10.
A first victory of the event came handsomely with a 46-0 triumph against LUC Rugby, but they were then beaten 36-5 by eventual champions Hearts & Balls MB in their final game.
The winners downed Mo Sisters 24-0 to seal the silverware in the final.
The women are next in action at the Armed Forces Day 7s at Broadstreet on Saturday, June 29.
Army Men will aim for a hat-trick of Super Series wins when they head to Bury St Edmunds for the third and final event on Saturday, having previously triumphed at Farnham and Newbury.
They therefore top the overall standings on 40 points, with only Apache (27) and Shogun (25) able to catch them.
